Primary Research Interest: Neurology
Description of Research: My grant supported research is to develop novel treatments of brain injuries. We have demonstrated that our neurotensin receptor 1 agonists can effectively reduce the body and brain temperature and show significant neuroprotective effects in rodent models. We are investigating the optimal conditions and long term effects of the treatment using cellular, bioengineering, molecular and animal behavioral tests. We have also being working on new mechanism of AD pathogenesis.
Relevance to VA: Stroke, traumatic brain injury (TBI) and Alzheimer's Disease (AD) affect many veterans and have been the major threats to veteran's life and health. There are so far very limited treatments for those veteran patients.
