Description of Research: |
Within the VA Health Care system total knee replacement has risen over 18% in the past five years with over 9000 cases performed in 2016 alone. Medical centers are looking for ways to safely accommodate this growing demand. Our hypothesis is that there is a great deal of variation in operative time for total knee arthroplasty and that this variation may be associated with negative outcomes for patients. This study will attempt to evaluate this variation, identify underperforming centers and guide recommendations to help improve care for our veterans. |
Relevance to VA: |
Understand variation in Total Knee Arthroplasty outcomes and variables contributing to variation. |
