Description of Research: |
The overall goal of our laboratory is study how humoral and mechanical factors modulate vascular inflammatory responses as they pertain to the development of atherosclerosis, angiogenesis and hypertensive vascular disease. Active projects include:
1) The Role of Angiotensin II in the Pathogenesis of atherosclerosis.
2) Mechanisms of Post-Natal vascular growth.
3) Endothelial Progenitor Cells and Vascular Disease.
4) Molecular and Biomechanical Mechanisms of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms.
|
Relevance to VA: |
Atherosclerosis and other vascular disease are extremely common in our Veteran population. The studies underway in our laboratory are focused on understanding the mechanisms of these disease processes with the ultimate goal of developing new therapeutic strategies. |
