Description of Research: Dr. Maa focuses on tele-ophthalmology as her main research interests. She is also interested in AI, predictive analytics, and implementation science. She is the Director of National Subspecialty Ophthalmology Network, in V23 Clinical Resource Hub, and serves national roles on the Ophthalmology Field Advisory Board, Office of Connected Care and Clinical Resource Hub (Office of Primary Care).
Relevance to VA: Veterans are at high risk for potentially blinding eye disease because they are an older cohort of patients. Technology-based Eye Care Services (TECS) and National Subspecialty Ophthalmology Network (NSON) are remote care initiatives for Ophthalmology that aims to improve veteran access to eye care and prevent blindness by early detection of disease and medical management of chronic eye conditions.
