Description of Research: We study the pathophysiological response to vascular injury and the subsequent atherosclerosis and restenosis that develops. This includes the inflammatory, progenitor cell and thrombotic response. We also study potentially novel treatments in the area of ischemic heart disease, with a special emphasis on catheterization laboratory-based treatments.
Relevance to VA: Atherosclerosis, ischemic heart disease and peripheral vascular disease are major causes of morbitidy and mortality in the aging Veteran population.
