Description of Research: |
Jodie L. Guest is the Director of HIV Research at the Atlanta VA Medical Center and holds faculty positions at Emory University, both in the School of Medicine and Rollins School of Public Health. She manages the clinical and research database of 3,400 HIV+ patients and designs and analyzes research protocols for the HIV Atlanta VA Cohort Study (HAVACS). She is currently working on studies addressing the issues of antiretroviral-induced lipid abnormalities, nephrotoxicity, inflammatory markers of endothelial cell activation and hepatitis c coinfection. She lectures extensively on the use of epidemiologic study formats and statistics in the clinical medicine arena. She is the Principle Investigator or Co-Investigator for more than 30 HIV-related studies and is well published at international scientific conferences and in peer-reviewed journals. In 2002 she won the Golden Apple for Excellence in Teaching Award for Emory University’s School of Medicine. She is on the steering committee for the international cohort collaboration ART-cc. |
Relevance to VA: |
Dr. Guest directs the HIV research group at the Atlanta VA. This VA houses the largest HIV clinic in the VA system with over 1400 active patients and more than 30 active study protocols. As the largest provider of HIV care in the country, HIV care is essential for the VA system. |
