Primary Research Interest: Psychology
Description of Research: Neural substrates of behavior; neural plasticity; cognitive and language rehabilitation; changes in brain systems in aging.
Relevance to VA: In order to develop cognitive and aphasia rehabilitation treatments for veterans, it is necessary to understand the neural substrates of cognition and language, and specifically how to change them with rehabilitation. Since more than 60% of veterans are over the age of 55, it is also necessary to understand how the older brain works and how the aging brain interacts with age-related brain disorders.
