Primary Research Interest: Neurology
Description of Research: Our laboratory is interested in cognitive neuroscience with a focus on perception, and in neurological rehabilitation, especially of cognitive functions. A major interest is multisensory perception. We are studying how these interactions are implemented neurally. We use a variety of approaches, including psychophysics and functional magnetic resonance imaging(fMRI), and are also involved in collaborative studies using electroencephalography(EEG) and transcranial magnetic stimulation(TMS).
Relevance to VA: Our studies on multisensory perception are currently funded by the NIH, and are relevant to the rehabilitation of visually impaired veterans. A VA RR&D SPiRE that will fund studies of spatial cognitive training for blind veterans is currently in jit.
