Description of Research: This research involves voluntary staff completion of surveys, only groups rseults will be released to the research team. These surveys, called the staff survey and transfer team survey, contained questions about any injuries recvevied due to patient handling and movement, job satisfication and the culture of saftey and the facility.
Relevance to VA: The VHA recently invested over $205 million dollars in a safe patient handling initiative to promote safe patient handling across all of its medical facilities. The goal of the VHA SPH Initiative is to support the VA in creating a culture of safety, promoting evidence-based practice, and becoming an employer of choice. I have been named the facility champion for our facility and I am in charge of implementing this initiative. Our facility was one of 21 randomly chosen facilities to participate in the program evaluation being conducted by the VISN 8 Patient Safety Center of Inquiry at the Tampa VA. Our participation includes 1) surveys of staff that have a role in direct patient care and 2) surveys of transfer team members.
