Description of Research: Research into the pathophysiology and risks for atherosclerosis and diabetes mellitus. Projects include screeing for lipid disorders, screening for risk of diabetes mellitus, oxidizability of lipids in the plasma and assessment of lipid changes with medications. Clinical Science VA Merit Award "CVD risk in Veterans" from 1/1/2014 to 12/31/2017. Basic Science VA Merit Award on "Million Veterans Program Genes and CVD Risk" from 10/1/2015 to 12/31/2017.
Relevance to VA: Research in atherosclerosis, heart disease, diabetes mellitus, and genetics. Each of these diseases is responsible for extremely great morbidity and mortality in veterans.
